Cuba 2009

This reportage started from the wish to better know this country in order to tell a story using images.

The three elements, that immediately impressed me, were the colors, the cars and the humanity of the people.

The colors of Cuba fail to charm everywhere you go, whether due to natural or human work, regardless of the light. The cheerful colors of the houses in Trinidad or the sparkling car perfectly maintained since the late 50's they always manage to catch the eye. But the subject that most allowed me to 'grow' photographically were just people. In the history of the trip were the first pictures of landscapes, buildings and cars, especially from a distance, and performed with the use of telephoto. The strength of these subjects has almost created in me a kind of awe and the consequent timidity in reaching them. The 'discovery' of naturalness, tranquility and, in some cases, the pleasure of Cubans to be photographed, immediately helped me to enter into relationships with people, and more generally with the subjects. The physical distance with them decreased immediatly, even through the use of wide-angle lenses. Similarly, the use of those lenses 'forced' me to overcome the shyness of my character, to discover the wealth of stimuli and elements that the interaction with people can give. It has been a formidable learning, which allowed me to tell the experience through images. Exhibitions with my photos:

  • Inauguration of the restaurant/photo library Blurry in Rome (2010);
  • From 'FEFE' FA ARTE CON GLI ARTIPASTI ', restaurant near Naples Bacoli (2010);
  • Cloister church of San Francesco in Ischitella (FG), sponsored by the city (2011).
